Govt to soon come out with sustainable aviation fuel policy, says Rammohan Naidu

ANIGovt to soon come out with sustainable aviation fuel policy, says Rammohan Naidu The government will soon unveil a policy on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which could help reduce crude oil imports, boost farmers’ incomes, and generate more green jobs, reported PTI quoting Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Thursday.Speaking at the India Sustainable Aviation Fuel Summit 2025 in the national capital, Naidu said adopting SAF would require greater innovation, investment, and international collaboration.“From feedstock to fuel, from farmers to flyers, and from frying to flying, who would have actually imagined that those frying samosas also can participate in this whole global aviation movement,” he said.India aims for 1 per cent SAF blending in jet fuel by 2027, 2 per cent by 2028, and 5 per cent by 2030. The fuel can be used as a drop-in substitute in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which powers aircraft. The minister urged private players to participate in SAF production alongside oil companies. Globally, the demand for SAF is projected at 183 million tonnes by 2040.Live EventsHighlighting India’s potential, Naidu said the country has over 750 million tonnes of available biomass and nearly 213 million tonnes of surplus agricultural residue. The government plans to release its SAF policy shortly. Naidu noted that SAF could raise farmers’ incomes by 10-15 per cent, reduce crude oil import bills by USD 5-7 billion annually, and create more than 1 million green jobs along the SAF value chain.“While global SAF production is currently very low, India can produce SAF at highly competitive rates, helping balance growth with sustainability,” he said.India is among the world’s fastest-growing civil aviation markets, with domestic carriers having placed orders for over 1,700 planes. With inputs from PTIAdd as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
