Gov’t to introduce $7m smart agriculture training programme for Corentyne youth

Youths from Port Mourant and other areas along the Corentyne Coast are set to benefit from a Smart Agriculture training programme as part of government’s drive to ensure citizens possess the skillsets to integrate into Guyana’s fast-growing oil and gas economy.

This disclosure was made by Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, while delivering the feature address at the Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc’s second graduation ceremony. He explained that his Ministry will be collaborating with the Mission to introduce the proposed training programme, a release from the Ministry of Agriculture stated on Saturday.

During his address, Mustapha said that in the coming months, the ministry’s National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) will develop the project which is expected to cost approximately $7 million.
