Govt to integrate aviation, rail, road and water into transport system

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nipke, has outlined plans by government to integrate Ghana’s four main modes of transport to make travel easier and more seamless for citizens.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Mr. Nipke explained that the government’s vision is to create an interconnected system that allows travellers to conveniently switch between air, rail, road, and inland water transport.

“Our vision is how we can integrate the four modes of transport to make travel easier or seamless for people. When you take the aviation sector, although people say it is expensive, it is the fastest, depending on where you want to go and what you want to do,” he said.

He added that beyond aviation, the government is working to improve other modes, particularly rail and inland water transport, to complement the road network.

“We are looking at how to improve on the rest of the modes of transport—railway, and also the inland water transport services. That will integrate the transport system, so you can use one to a point and continue with the other options,” the minister explained.

According to him, the goal is to ease mobility, reduce travel times, and expand accessibility across the country by leveraging the strengths of each transport mode.
