KARACHI: Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori announced to form a Governor’s Youth Force for carrying welfare activities throughout the megacity in a more organised and targeted manner. Addressing a public meeting at Surjani Town, Saturday night, organised by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, he stressed uplift of Surjani Town. He said it will now witness a big development of infrastructure under the PM Special Package for Karachi worth Rupees 40 billion. Some development schemes have already been completed and that Surjani population is very appreciative to MQM-P leadership. He said these funds will be utilised for upgradation of the megacity’s destroyed infrastructure through proportionate allocation of funds to elected MNAs. However, MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar said the credit for getting Rs 40 billion for development of Karachi goes to Governor Tessori who pursued the federal government, especially Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over last one and half since he became Governor Sindh. He said people of Surjani Town are deprived of even basic civic facilities, including drinking water, and sewerage system. However, the governor proposed one high standard public sector university and a big hospital in Surjani Town. “I will request Federal Education Minister Dr Maqbool Siddiqui and Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal for a university and a hospital in Surjani Town.” He said there is only one police station and one power house for this densely populated large area. He recommended that these should at least four each to ensure better law and order, and uninterrupted power supply. He said the people were also facing difficulty in getting their CNICs and other documents from NADRA. There should more such facilities to cover this large area. Tessori announced that the second phase of IT training to another 50,000 youth at the Governor House will start soon. He offered that one thousand youth will be registered only from Surjani Town. IT camps also will be set up in this remote area. Also, ration will be distributed among the poor and lower middle class population of this area. Both leaders alleged that Karachi has been turned into ruins because of being vote bank of MQM-P. They resolved, their party through their elected representatives will make the megacity once a city of lights and a prosperous one. DR Farooq said the MQM-P is the genuine representative party of Karachi and it had come into action once again. “It was short silence; our era will start once again.” He hinted at leading a big protest rally against e-challan soon on Shahra-e-Faisal.
