Gov. Abbott Appoints J. Brian Williams as Judge of Rockwall County's 503rd Judicial District Court

Gov. Greg Abbott has made his choice for the 503rd Judicial District Court in Rockwall County, naming J. Brian Williams as its judge. The appointment, effective starting December 1st, will see Williams serve until the end of next year, unless a successor is otherwise elected and takes office. Williams steps into the role with a background firmly entrenched in local legal circles. Currently serving as the Rockwall County Court at Law Judge, he has made sure to deeply involve himself in both the legal and civic fabric of Rockwall. Not one to merely sit on the periphery, Williams has taken on leadership as past president of the Rockwall County Bar Association and continues his service as vice president of the Rockwall County Open Space Alliance. He's the kind of civic player who understands that to truly serve, one must often step in to lead. According to the announcement made by the Governor’s office, Williams's resume includes an education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Government, followed by his Juris Doctor earned from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law – making him an academic product of Texas through and through. The appointment is a strategic move, with Abbott tapping from a pool of local expertise. Williams is already familiar with the lawns he is set to further maintain, a factor that might stream to facilitate his transition into this higher office. The coming year will likely prove to be one of both challenges and opportunities as Williams takes on his new judicial role, stepping up to helm the 503rd District Court with an eye on justice and the kind of grassroots engagement that has characterized his career to date.
