Gov. Wes Moore concerned for federal workers, but holds firm on health care concessions

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore , along with the state’s two U.S. senators, traveled to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) Wednesday to thank federal workers on the job, while continuing to blame Republicans and President Trump for the ongoing government shutdown.
Moore, directing a comment at President Trump, said “Stop attempting to gut health care for working families and end this shut down now. You’re the one causing it. We’re the ones feeling it.”
WATCH FULL PRESSER:
There appeared to be no impact on air travel at BWI on Wednesday. A check of the arrival and departure boards showed only slight delays on a very small number of flight and security checkpoints appeared to be fully staffed.
7News attempted to speak to several TSA employees but they each said they are under orders not to talk to the press. Privately, they said they’re frustrated with both Republicans and Democrats. They also are fearing the risks to them are too great for the shutdown to continue much longer.

So, 7News took their concerns to Gov. Moore and Democratic Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen, asking them: Why not vote for the Republican continuing resolution which would re-open and fund government at existing levels?
Moore says he wants the senators to hold firm in opposition to Republican cuts to health care subsidies.
“This assault on our federal workers is ongoing from the President of the United States,” said Moore, “so I’m thankful that we have a federal delegation that is standing firm in saying a prerequisite for keeping the federal government should not be raising premiums by 70%.”
The senators also unwilling to signal any willingness to budge.
“What we’re saying is we want to government to reopen. But we also happen to believe that it is immoral to have people without health care. The moral center of our country is being decimated right now. It is immoral cruel and inhumane what they are doing,” said Alsobrooks.
Van Hollen said, “We cannot give a lawless president a blank check to continue to do what he has been doing from day onefiring federal employees.”
Republican Congressman Andy Harris and the Maryland Freedom Caucus has also called on Maryland’s Democrat delegation to end the government shutdown.
“Despite the high number of federal workers in our state, I was the only member of our delegation to vote to keep the government open,” Harris said in a statement. “Governor Moore and Maryland Democrats talk about ‘supporting workers,’ but their actions tell a different story. Every Member of the Maryland Delegation voted to shut the government down and Maryland’s Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks have voted to shut down the government five times – and by all accounts will continue to do so. They could end this shutdown today if they truly cared about Maryland families.”
