Gov Idris kicks against politicising insecurity, says mischief makers should desist

From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris has kicked against politicising insecurity in the state and advised the mischief makers to desist.

Idris noted that there was no local government in the state that was ungovernable, describing the false alarm as fake with political motives.

The Governor stated this while speaking in Birnin Kebbi at the 2025 Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum Annual Conference and Economic Development Summit.

The Governor requested the Elders’ Forum to call such individuals to order because of the damage and negativity they wrought on the state.

“Your distinguished personalities, some callous persons have induced politics into security matters. My administration has continued to invest enormous resources to secure lives and property of our people.

“They are constantly using the pages of newspapers and social media to discern lies and falsehood.

“Their thinking is to disparage my administration, but the injury is to the whole Kebbi. My investment drive led to the formalisation of Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, with foreign investors.

“They are already on ground, from which more than one hundred thousand direct and indirect jobs would become available to Kebbi indigenes.

“Our detractors are unhappy about the successes of the administration; that’s why they are politicising security issues to scuttle such investments, but by God’s willing, they will fail,” Governor Idris added.

On the economic summit, Comrade Idris said Kebbi State under his watch would consolidate on its leading position as the largest rice and wheat producer in Nigeria.

“We shall continue to empower our people and reposition Kebbi in key sectors of socioeconomic indices,” he remarked.

Former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Professor Tijjani Muhammad Bande, believed that the rice revolution in Kebbi State laid the foundation for the attainment of Nigeria’s food security with resounding success.

In a keynote address, the former Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, made it clear that Kebbi rice has made a name as a good brand in Nigeria and beyond.

Bande, who is now the District Head of Besse, expressed delight that Kebbi rice not only transformed rural livelihoods but also inspired national pride.

“From the green plains of Argungu to the valleys of Zuru, agriculture defines Kebbi’s identity. It is more than an occupation; it’s the rhythm of our daily life.

“When farmers thrive, rural economies revive. When we invest in sustainable farming, we invest directly in the wellbeing of the citizenry,” Bande remarked.

The former Envoy recommended the scaling up of irrigation, improved seed systems and embracing mechanisation to boost yields in rice, wheat and livestock production.

He charged the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, and the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, to take up applied research that develops local fertiliser and improved seeds.

In a goodwill message, the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, represented by the Magajin Rafi, Barrister Sambo Aliyu, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making Kebbi State the vanguard of Nigeria’s agricultural growth.

“President Tinubu has appointed two Kebbi indigenes, Sadiq Abubakar Yelwa as the Managing Director, National Hydro-Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, and Abubakar Gari Mallam, as the Managing Director, Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority.

“On behalf of all the four Emirates’ Councils, we are thanking our amenable President Asiwaju for bestowing this honour on Kebbi in recognition of its agricultural uplift to lead Nigeria to food security,” Sambo said.
