Google is celebrating its 27th birthday on September 27, 2025 and the tech giant is featuring a special doodle that brought back the company’s original 1998 original design. On Google’s 27th birthday, the spotlight is not just on the search engine but also on Ruth Kedar- the woman who designed the logo that has become as familiar as the company itself.Ruth Kedar, a Brazilian immigrant, was the mind behind Google’s iconic logo, that the search engine giant is honouring today on its 27th birthday.Who is Ruth Kedar?Born in Campinas, Brazil, in 1955, Ruth Kedar moved with her family to Israel when she was just 16. It was a tough shift – new culture, new language – but she leaned on what she loved most: math and art. That mix took her into architecture, and she even ran her own studio for a while. Still, something was missing. After a few years, she packed her bags again, this time heading to the US to continue her studies, according to Techlusive.ALSO READ: D4vd Tesla scandal gets mysterious: Celeste Rivas linked to fake IDs and underage parties? New revelations emergeAt Stanford, she earned a Master’s in Design. One of her projects—a playing card set that caught Adobe’s attention—turned into a major career opportunity. She contributed to Adobe’s promotional Illustrator deck, rose to the role of Art Director, and eventually returned to Stanford as a Visiting Art Professor. It was there that fate intervened. Two PhD students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, were developing a small project that would eventually reshape the world. They approached Kedar to design their logo and she approached it with full dedication. She accepted the deal and took the work seriously, and designed a logo for something that defied the tests of time.Live EventsSpeaking to Google on its 25th anniversary, she shared how the design came to be. “Early in the process we decided that we would create a logotype for Google, which meant that the logo would only use the letters in the Google name,” she said.“When I came upon the font Catull, I loved the nod to traditional typefaces, but at the same time how the lightness, elegance, precision of its lines, and its proportions deviated from traditional serifs fonts,” she said.ALSO READ: Makena White revealed about health struggles before her death at 28? Jake Knapp girlfriend’s posts resurfaceHow did Ruth Kedar design Google’s design?Ruth Kedar selected the Catull typeface—a serif font that bridged tradition with a modern, forward-looking feel. She infused it with a playful touch through primary colours, which, to her, weren’t merely bold and attention-grabbing; they represented limitless possibility, much like the act of searching itself. What she created went beyond a mere logo. It became the cornerstone of a visual identity that would withstand fleeting design trends. That foundation also paved the way for the Google Doodle, a whimsical tradition that millions still eagerly anticipate. Almost three decades on, Google’s look has evolved, yet the essence of Kedar’s design endures. On its 27th anniversary, it’s worth celebrating the designer who gave the internet’s front door its first, unforgettable face.ALSO READ: Erika Kirk made a dating app ‘Faith and Fellowship’ and is she using it?
