Google Wallet Now Pushes Live Flight Updates to Samsung's Now Bar

The experience of monitoring travel plans is now easier for Samsung Galaxy users who use Google Wallet. A recent software integration allows Google Wallet to deliver real-time travel information—like flights—directly into Samsung’s Now Bar. This will make critical travel updates immediately visible. Samsung introduced the Now Bar with One UI 7. The feature gained enhanced capabilities through Android 16’s Live Notifications API, now present in One UI 8. With the update to Google Play Services (v25.41), Google Wallet now supports this functionality. Previously, this capability was exclusive to Samsung Wallet users. Google Wallet delivers real-time travel status of your flights via Samsung’s Now Bar The upgrade means users can access critical “Live Updates” for flights, train journeys, and related events directly on the device’s always-on display, lock screen, and status bar. This removes the need to unlock the phone or navigate within an application. Unlike static notifications, these updates are visually integrated and dynamic. Users can now observe flight status and progress, which might be represented by an indicator of duration or a trip completion progress bar, along with real-time changes to boarding times and gate assignments, and progress tracking for train journeys. Extending wallet functionality The latest Google Play Services update also introduces additional utility features to the Wallet platform. First, the process of adding financial instruments is becoming easier. Banks can now allow users to add their credit or debit cards directly to Google Wallet through their respective banking applications. This way, people can bypass the requirement for manual entry of card information. Second, the system improves the management of loyalty programs. If a loyalty pass arrives in a user’s Gmail inbox, Google Wallet automatically recognizes it and sends a notification, prompting the user to import the pass directly. The upgrades support devices running Android 12 or newer versions. To access these real-time travel alert features, users require a compatible Galaxy phone running One UI 8 and the latest version of Google Play services.
