For some time now, Google has been actively integrating advanced artificial intelligence features directly into its core Search product. Recent findings suggest the company plans to introduce its image generation technology, known as Nano Banana, into the AI Mode of the Google Search app. This move aims to transform the standard search experience by incorporating a powerful visual component.
Google Search’s AI Mode to get image generation via Nano Banana
The image generator, which uses the Gemini 2.5 Flash model, could be directly accessible to mobile users. Nano Banana has previously generated viral trends largely due to its ability to produce highly realistic (if occasionally strange) output.
Android Authority found the code hints in the 16.38.62 beta of the Google app on Android. Developers have observed changes to the text input box interface. The traditional image upload icon is reportedly being replaced by a versatile plus sign (+). Tapping this new button will present users with an option to “Create images,” alongside uploading photos from their gallery or camera. This capability will allow users to generate a custom visual to quickly represent or explore a complex concept during a search. This would move the search results beyond standard text and links.
Enhanced privacy and conversation
Beyond the visual integration, Google is also testing two functional updates that focus on user control and interaction:
Expanded History Deletion: Google currently offers several options for managing search history. The list includes deleting the last 15 minutes, the previous hour, the entire preceding day, or custom ranges. New code suggests the company is experimenting with adding a 30-minute deletion option. This provides users with more granular control over their immediate history, bridging the time gap between the current 15-minute quick delete and longer periods.
Search Live Shortcut: To make continuous dialogue more accessible, Google is testing a new “Live conversation” shortcut on the standard voice search page. This button acts as a direct link to Search Live. It will facilitate conversational, back-and-forth interactions with the AI while conducting a search. Search Live is Google’s capability for continuous dialogue within AI Mode (although currently limited to US users). The addition of a dedicated shortcut streamlines the process for those who use the feature frequently.
