Google Is Changing Its Work From Home Policy And Making It Stricter, All You Need To Know

A lot of tech giants have changed their work-from-home policies, and now it's time for Google. The company has brought new rules for the Work From Anywhere policy. According to the new rule, the employees will no longer be able to use their WFA allowance to work from home or from the offices of Google in different states or countries. In the past, the employees were allowed to work from any location outside of their primary office for up to four weeks every calendar year. Changes In Google's WFA Policy The latest work from anywhere policy cannot be used to work from home or nearby, restricting the use to locations that are far from both the main office and home. The internal document states, 'Whether you log 1 Work From Anywhere or 5 Work From Anywhere days in a given standard work week, one WFA week will be deducted from your WFA weekly balance.' What this means is that if an employee takes just Monday off to work remotely, they will lose an entire week from their annual work from anywhere allocation, irrespective of whether they come back to the office for the remaining days of the week. With this change, the employees will be prohibited from working from Google offices in different states or countries during the work from anywhere periods due to 'legal and financial implications of cross border work,' as reported by CNBC. Google's Vice President John Cassey said that the policy was made to make things easy for Googlers during the time of the pandemic. Casey said, 'The policy was always intended to be taken in increments of a week and not be used as a substitute for working from home in a regular hybrid workweek.' Google has been getting stricter for remote workers as the company said that it will eliminate those who will be unable to comply with the rigid hybrid rules of the company.
