Golf commentator reveals reason behind Tyrrell Hatton’s outburst in Abu Dhabi

Tyrrell Hatton shot an even-par 72 in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Championship, leaving him at six-under for the tournament. He heads into the weekend eight shots behind the leaders. The 34-year-old is a talented golfer, but he does struggle to keep his emotions in check during play. However, Gary Player recently suggested that Hatton’s short temper can sometimes help him move on quickly from mistakes. This week, he is playing in Abu Dhabi with hopes of either winning or at least finishing strongly enough to climb up the world rankings. Even though he opened with a six-under 66, Hatton admitted he did not feel entirely comfortable during his first round. But it was his second round that may have left him feeling even more uneasy after what unfolded on the course Friday. Tyrrell Hatton’s frustration boils over during Abu Dhabi Championship round Hatton’s second round was interrupted on the par-five 11th hole after a fine drive down the fairway. The Englishman missed his approach shot to the right and later putted four times, leading to a double bogey. Hatton appeared to gesture towards the gallery after missing his putt and again following another missed attempt. It looked as though he was sarcastically asking if anyone wanted to take his next putt for him, but there seemed to be more behind it than just frustration. According to Wayne Riley, Hatton was upset about the pin placement. However, it remains unclear whether he managed to speak with a DP World Tour official about his complaint. “The reason why Tyrrell was having a little dummy-spit was because he wanted to speak to a referee to complain about the pin placement,” the Sky Sports commentator revealed. It remains unclear whether the Englishman was granted his wish to speak with a DP World Tour official. Highs and lows from Tyrrell Hatton’s second round in Abu Dhabi Hatton was sitting at four-under through 10 holes, but his level-par 72 could have been much better. The 34-year-old posted five birdies and made 10 pars in his second round at Abu Dhabi. But there were mistakes too: one bogey and a pair of double bogeys, both coming on par-fives. His round ended on a rough note after he found the long grass behind the green with his third shot at the 18th. It took him two attempts to get out, and he finished with another double bogey. The European Ryder Cup star did not seem quite right after disagreeing with the pin placement on the 11th hole. He never seemed to recover from that seven on the par-five. Hatton will be aiming to rack up more birdies over the weekend, but if he wants any chance of catching up to the leaders, he will need to cut out those costly mistakes.
