Golden Corral in Sioux City being demolished, property purchased by AutoZone

SIOUX CITY — The Golden Corral Buffet & Grill in Sioux City’s Lakeport Commons is being demolished.
The restaurant, located at 5230 Sergeant Road, closed July 17, 2019. At the time, it was said to be closed for remodeling, but management then said it would not reopen. It then reopened in 2021 and closed permanently in 2023, based on information from the store’s website that was captured by the Wayback Machine.
Friday afternoon, construction crews were seen demolishing the building and hauling away the materials.
The property was purchased by AutoZone Development LLC from Dolly Investments on Sept. 8 for nearly $1.9 million, according to property records.
The Golden Corral was first opened on Oct. 23, 2008. It was an 11,000-square-foot free-standing restaurant.
