The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GHS5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to help strengthen the fight against illegal mining in a short ceremony in Accra on Monday September 15, 2025 at Goldbod head office.

Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq. during the presentation said the gesture was part of the organization’s commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable mining in Ghana.

He explained that GoldBod’s aim is to support gold purchases for foreign exchange purposes, but stressed that the gold must be mined responsibly to protect the environment.

‎“Our collective survival depends on the success of the fight against illegal mining, and so we cannot afford to fail,” Mr. Gyamfi stated. He added that while GoldBod will encourage legal and responsible miners, it will also support NAIMOS to deal firmly with those who persist in illegal mining.

Mr. Gyamfi also announced that GoldBod will soon roll out initiatives to ensure value-chain traceability in gold trade, formalize small-scale mining, reclaim 1,000 hectares of destroyed forest reserves, and support the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ cooperative mining program.

‎Receiving the donation, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, thanked GoldBod for the support, describing it as a major boost in the fight against illegal mining.‎‎He assured the public that government remains committed to sustaining the fight against “galamsey” until degraded forests are restored and polluted water bodies are cleaned.
