Gogglebox fans have recently uncovered the origin of Giles Wood and Mary Killen’s unusual pet name for each other. The couple, who joined the popular Channel 4 programme in 2015, quickly became fan favourites. Their witty banter, insightful comments and humorous takes on television shows have consistently left viewers chuckling. Giles and Mary, who live in Wiltshire, first met when they were 21 years old; Giles was studying at Wimbledon Art School and Mary was working as a model. They married thirty years ago and have two daughters. However, their peculiar term of endearment, “nutty”, has both puzzled and amused audiences over the years, according to the Manchester Evening News, reports Bristol Live . In a recent Instagram video, the couple referred to each other by this nickname, leading one viewer to ask in the comments: “Where did the nickname nutty come from.” Another added: “Always wondered that.” For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . Mary had previously explained to the Daily Star the story behind their now-famous nickname. She said: “We call each other ‘nutty’ because we both consider the other to be a bit mad.” She went on to say: “Giles has multiple personality disorder so he’s all sorts of people and one of them is a bit of a genius. The truth is we’re both neurotic.” Gogglebox stars Giles and Mary have previously shared how their time on the popular show ‘rescued their marriage’. Speaking to MailOnline, Giles said: “Working together on Gogglebox watching telly at the same time meant Mary and I suddenly no longer lived like two intimate strangers. “Mary working from 6am till 8pm, then falling asleep slightly drunk at 9pm; me gardening from 1pm till 3.30pm, when I have lunch, and then going to bed at two in the morning after watching vintage horror films. It has definitely saved our marriage.” In addition, it was revealed that one of Giles and Mary’s daughters nearly made an appearance on the Channel 4 show with her father but pulled out at the last minute.
