HomeCorporate-galleryGM of NFR inspects Guwahati Railway Station GM of NFR inspects Guwahati Railway Station Reviews preparedness for handling increased footfall during the festive period FPJ News ServiceUpdated: Saturday, October 25, 2025, 08:32 AM IST The General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, inspected Guwahati Railway Station to review the preparedness and passenger amenities in view of the anticipated rise in passenger footfall during the ongoing festive season. The station, one of the busiest in the region, handles around 48,970 passengers daily, with more than 200 trains starting, terminating, or passing through it each day, with peak season footfall increasing to around 65000 passengers daily. During the inspection, the GM reviewed various crowd management and safety measures undertaken at the station. He also reviewed the holding areas outside the stations for managing surge in passenger footfall, with arrangement for passenger information system, drinking water, toilets, fans etc. The GM also addressed the media during his visit, informing about the various initiatives adopted by NFR and emphasized the need for continued vigilance and teamwork to ensure safe, efficient and comfortable travel for passengers throughout the festive season. Various other measures like automatic ticket vending machines are installed at station, real-time tracking of passenger density through control rooms integrated with station surveillance feeds, CCTV network etc. Additional RPF & GRP along with Commercial staff have been assigned in shift duty for passenger convenience and safety. Queue management with barricades and rope lines are being used at counters, entry gates and escalator approaches for smooth handling of excess crowd. Also drones and Segway scooters by RPF are being used for enhanced security coverage alongwith war rooms at divisions and NFR HQ for 24*7 crowd monitoring at station premises. To meet the heightened travel demand during the festive period, Northeast Frontier Railway has introduced a total of 620 trips of special trains, providing additional accommodation and convenience to passengers.
