Global steel production decreased 1.6 per cent year-on-year to 141.8 million tonnes (mt) in September 2025. However, according to the data released by World Steel Association, India’s output went up to 13.6 mt—an increase of 13.2 per cent when compared with a year ago period. China’s steel production nosedived 4.6 per cent to 73.5 mt in September while the US recorded a 6.7 per cent increase in its output at 6.9 mt. Japan’s steel production plummeted 3.7 per cent to 6.4 mt and Russia’s production went north by 3.8 per cent to 5.2 mt. South Korea’s steel production decreased 2.4 per cent to 5 mt. Türkiye recorded an increase of 3.3 per cent in its output at 3.2 mt in the period under consideration. Germany’s production fell marginally by 0.6 per cent to 3.0 mt. Brazil’s production was down 3.2 per cent at 2.8 mt and Iran produced 2.3 mt of steel in September, up 6 per cent. Regional output Region wise, Africa produced 2 mt of steel in September 2025, up 8.2 per cent. Asia and Oceania’s output went up by 2.1 per cent to 102.9 mt. EU had a 4.5 per cent increase in its steel production at 10.1 mt. Europe (Other) also saw its numbers increase 1.4 per cent to 3.6 mt. The Middle East’s output was 4.6 mt, up 9.3 per cent. While North America recorded a 1.8 per cent increase in production at 8.8 mt. Russia & other CIS countries produced 6.2 mt of steel, down 5.3 per cent.
