Glenn Hoddle labels Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over FC Copenhagen as one of the most inspiring games of their campaign After a 1-0 defeat for Tottenham Hotspur to Chelsea in the Premier League, Thomas Frank would’ve been eager to make a statement the Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen. Indeed, there has been a lot of talk over the north London side’s lack of creativity and cutting edge in front of goal, an issue which was also laid bare against Chelsea. In the game against FC Copenhagen, though, they looked a different side going forward and scored four goals. Thanks in part to the visitors’ mistakes in the first half, Spurs dominated for large parts. Brennan Johnson netted his first Champions League goal and Tottenham’s opener in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before he was sent off in the 57th minute. Tottenham were 2-0 to the good when they went a man down, but rather than just sitting in a low block and trying to defend the lead, they showed a burning desire to score more goals. Eventually, Micky van de Ven and Joao Palhinha added to the tally, helping the team enjoy a comprehensive victory in the Champions League. He felt refreshing watching Tottenham’s approach to attack and score more goals rather than defend the lead after Johnson’s red card, admitting it was one of the “most inspiring games” of their campaign. “It was a weird night for Tottenham – they went ahead then had a man sent off, so you wondered if they were going to drop back and bank on what they had. but instead they had one of the most inspiring games of their season,” Glenn Hoddle told TNT Sports (h/t BBC Sport). Near-perfect performance from Spurs This kind of display was desperately needed from Tottenham, especially on home turf. Frank has said it multiple times that he wants to make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a fortress, and of course, with the help of our loyal and passionate fans. Following a fast start from the team, the home crowd raised the decibel level and encouraged them to attack the visitors from Denmark more. This positive energy from the fans transformed on to the pitch and played a big role in the Lilywhites getting a morale-boosting win over Copenhagen. Frank will expect something similar from both his team and the fans when Manchester United pay them a visit on Saturday. Ruben Amorim’s side have struck form lately, winning three and drawing one in their four games. So, it’d be a tough encounter, and Tottenham will need to fight tooth and nail to make it back-to-back wins in all competitions.
