Glasgow has just been named as one of cheapest places around the UK to get fish and chips. According to a recent study, Glasgow was named in the top 10, with an average price of just £10.37. The only other Scottish city on the list – which saw Manchester come out on top, was Dundee – which placed slightly higher up with an average of £9.47. The study by WDW Bingo has crunched the numbers and revealed where the top 10 cheapest fish and chips can be found in the UK, with prices reflecting the average cost of a standard portion of fish (cod or haddock) and chips in each city and town. Manchester topped the list as the most budget-friendly spot for a portion of fish and chips, averaging just £8.94. If you're looking for the cheapest fish and chips in town, then the answer previously would have been the Criterion, but now you're best bet might just be Guido's Coronation Restaurant, where you can get a sit in fish tea, lunch time Monday to Thursday (11.30 am to 3 pm) for under £7. “The data shows that the North dominates the top 10 cheap eat locations for this iconic dish,” said Harrison Score, head of WDW Bingo. “It’s also interesting that no seaside towns make the cut for cheaper chippies. "So whether you’re a local looking for your next go-to takeaway or a family planning a short break this half term, these Northern hotspots prove that delicious fish and chips don’t have to break the bank. "Grab a portion, enjoy some family time, and see what else the North has to offer - cheap as chips, and twice as charming."
