Girlfriend of alleged murder victim Matthew Adams describes the moment he deteriorated at home

Four adults and a teenager are on trial in connection with the murder of Matthew Adams. The 33-year-old father-of two, known as ‘Wacka’, of Yew Tree on the Walsall/Sandwell border, was attacked at The Gough Arms pub, Hill Top, West Bromwich in the early hours of March 19, 2023. He died four days later as a result of his injuries.

Giving evidence in the witness box on Monday (September 29) his girlfriend Amie Poll told Wolverhampton Crown Court of the moment she found Mr Adams collapsed in bed just minutes after she first dialled for an ambulance when she noticed that his condition had taken a turn for the worse.

A tearful Miss Poll, a health worker, told the jury Mr Adams had been in pain since the incident and she had encouraged him to get treatment for his injuries every day following the incident at the Jowetts Lane public house.

She said he had been taking painkillers kept in the cupboard at her home and that relatives had arranged to pick up his prescription medication, which he did not get to take due to the collapse.
