Giants Reportedly Send Crystal Clear Message on Trade Deadline Plans

The New York Giants are just 2-6 with the NFL trade deadline days away, so there has been quite a bit of speculation as to whether or not they will be moving edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux has one year remaining on his contract after this season and is clearly the third banana when it comes to the Giants’ edge-rusher rotation moving forward. New York already signed Brian Burns to a massive $141 million deal last year, and it selected Abdul Carter with the third overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April. PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – OCTOBER 26: Head coach Brian Daboll of the New York Giants looks on during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on October 26, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thibodeaux had a decent rookie campaign, registering 49 tackles, four sacks and a couple of forced fumbles. He then broke out in Year 2, racking up 50 tackles, 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Last season, the 25-year-old missed five games due to injury, finishing with 28 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He has logged 21 stops, 2.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits through eight weeks in 2025. Thibodeaux is definitely a talented player with room for growth, but it seems incredibly unlikely that the Giants will keep him long term. And to be quite frank, it wouldn’t be very financially responsible to hand big money to three edge rushers (assuming that Big Blue ultimately pays Carter, as well). There is no question that plenty of teams around the league would love to add Thibodeaux to their defense, so there would surely be no shortage of interest if New York made Thibodeaux available. New York will host the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. For more on the New York Giants and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
