The New York Giants are heading into Week 4 with a 0-3 record following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s definitely a rough time to be a Giants fan, but the reality is that this team is facing the most difficult schedule in the NFL, plus they’re trying to rebuild, so it’s not a surprise that they’re struggling right now.
The big news of the week, of course, is that the New York Giants have announced that they’ll be heading into the team’s next game with a new quarterback, rookie Jaxson Dart. The team is scheduled to play the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, September 28, at home, and this will be Dart’s first time starting in the NFL during the regular season.
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the Giants brought on Dart, as well as veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and Wilson had been starting up until this point. But, with three losses and zero wins, it’s time for the Giants to pull out a Hail Mary and try anything and everything. So, Dart will start, as was confirmed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll on Wednesday, September 24.
Jaxson Dart Gets Passionate About His New Role With the New York Giants
Dart was the team’s 25th-overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and they traded up to get him, so it’s a huge deal that he’s already getting his first start in the NFL. The pressure is on.
Speaking with reporters for the first time since being named Q1, Dart was emotional about his new opportunity. He said that he shared the news with his parents first, and they are overjoyed, too. His dad was actually in town when he found out the news, which probably made it even better.
“I’m just excited to get out there on the field and try to execute this offense to the best of my ability,” he said, adding that “there’s just a bunch of, you know, real professionals around.”
Dart added, “It’s been really appreciated, and even for Russ, he’s just somebody that I really look up to and he’s handled it great. So, just the interactions between us since. It just says a lot about him as a person.”
So, Dart is praising the Giants’ staff and Wilson, which is very classy. Dart is an underrated quarterback and hopefully will rise to the occasion and rock out on the field.
Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants by the Numbers
Dart had a great preseason with the Giants, and that’s one reason they’re relying on him so early in the regular season. He was impressive both in practices and during preseason games, and as you can tell from his latest press conference, he’s just a solid representation of the franchise. Before the season even started, he caught the eye of Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, who named Dart as the top quarterback in the rookie class for the 2025-26 season.
“Dart was sensational in all three exhibition contests operating Brian Daboll’s offense,” he stated in a September piece. “The third quarterback picked in the 2025 draft completed 68% of his 47 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions while averaging a hefty 7.9 yards per attempt. Beyond the numbers, the blend of quarterbacking style Dart demonstrated was so impressive.”
Dart will have the test of his life on Sunday, and those in the Big Apple are ready to see him deliver.
