Giants Linked to 'Nuclear' Coaching Candidate After Firing Brian Daboll

The New York Giants fired Brian Daboll on Monday following the team's Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears, a defeat that dropped the Giants to just 2-8 on the season. Mike Kafka will take over as interim head coach for New York in the meantime, but the Giants will almost certainly hire a new face heading into 2026. But another name has surfaced as a potential possibility: Jon Gruden. Darry Slater of NJ Advance Media has floated Gruden as a "nuclear" coaching candidate for the Giants, noting that his controversial history with the NFL could prevent him from actually getting a job. Gruden's name has been popular on the NCAA circuit this year, especially with the wave of high-profile firings across the country, but it would certainly be interesting to see if New York considers him as a Daboll replacement. The 62-year-old has 15 years of NFL head-coaching experience and led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship during the 2002-03 campaign. He began his career coaching the Oakland Raiders in 1998 and spent four seasons there before joining the Buccaneers, where he lasted for seven years. After being out of the NFL for a decade, Gruden re-surfaced with the Raiders in 2018 and resided in with the franchise for three-plus seasons before resigning midway through 2021. Gruden has gone 117-112 as a head coach, capturing four division titles while making the playoffs five times overall. He currently works as a media personality for Barstool Sports. We'll see if Gruden earns any consideration from New York. The Giants will face the Green Bay Packers next Sunday.
