Giants HC Brian Daboll reveals how New York plans to handle the roster after losing RB Cam Skattebo

The New York Giants roster has been decimated by injuries to key playmakers on offense just eight weeks into the NFL season. They lost star wide receiver Malik Nabers to an ACL injury after their win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and now they're going to be without running back Cam Skattebo. The Giants' run game was evolving into a unique attack with Skattebo leading the way, Tyrone Tracy playing off of him, and Jaxson Dart supplying juice as well. Now, without Skattebo, their running back room will be heavily depleted. When speaking to the media today, Daboll addressed how they plan to handle the lack of running backs."You'll definitely see Motor [Devin Singletary]. And then [Tyrone] Tracy, then we'll decide," Daboll told reporters, "We've got a week here to decide what we want to do." Can the Giants get by without Cam Skattebo? Losing Skattebo will have a profound adverse effect on the Giants' offense, which is already struggling. This season, he has already totalled 617 total yards with seven touchdowns before he went down with the injury. Trying to replace that production could be complicated. It makes little sense, given the Giants' record, that they'd trade for a running back. Some free agents they could consider include Gus Edwards, Zack Moss, Jamaal Williams, and Ezekiel Elliott. If any of those players were good enough to take NFL carries tomorrow, they'd likely be on a roster at this current moment. The outlook for what will happen for the Giants at running back is bleak. It's also devastating to lose a player who clearly had an impact on the locker room's culture and mindset. Daboll acknowledged that today, when delivering an update on his ankle. "I was chatting back and forth with Skatt last night," Daboll told the media, "For a guy that has come in and sparked us with a lot of energy and toughness, but the personality that he has as well. But it's like all your other players that you're close with. These guys spend a lot of time together, meeting time, outside the building. And that's always a tough element to this game is when guys go down and get hurt. You hate to see it. Unfortunately, it's part of the business."Daboll also added a hilarious note that encapsulates Skattebo's personality. Of course, he was awake early following his surgery, texting his coach."He texted me pretty early today. He's just got an infectious personality. It was at 4:08 this morning I got a text from him. You know, so that's Skatt." Skattebo's eventual return will be massive for the Giants in 2026. Hopefully, his ankle heals quickly, and he can be a key piece in their offseason improvement.
