GHMC commences stray dogs removal drive from government hospitals

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday commenced the removal of stray dogs from Government hospitals in Hyderabad. The move comes following the Supreme Court’s directive on November 7 mandating removal of stray dogs from public premises, including educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, and transport hubs. The court specified that these dogs should not be released back into such locations after sterilisation. In an official release on Saturday stated, “On the first day of the drive on Saturday, the GHMC teams caught and relocated 277 stray dogs from various Government hospitals to the GHMC Animal Care Centres. The dogs will undergo sterilisation, vaccination, and receive necessary care and management in these animal care centres.” The operation is being carried out to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s instructions and to maintain public safety in sensitive areas like public spaces, including educational institutions and transport hubs, it added.
