Ghana ready to be UK’s gateway to Africa under AfCFTA

President John Dramani Mahama is urging UK businesses to take advantage of Ghana’s political stability and growing economy by expanding their operations in the country.

He highlighted Ghana’s strategic position as a manufacturing and processing hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which offers duty-free, tariff-free access to markets across the continent.

President Mahama made the call when he welcomed the new British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, in Accra on Friday, September 19.

He noted that several UK companies are already operating in Ghana and encouraged more to do the same.

“We are encouraging more UK companies — there are already so many of them — but we are encouraging more to come and set up in Ghana, using Ghana as a hub and as a gateway to take advantage of the AfCFTA.

“Because now, we are able to export duty-free, tariff-free into each other’s markets. So Ghana is positioning itself as the hub for manufacturing and processing into the other markets,” he stated.
