Ghana Moves to Strengthen Innovation Ecosystem with New Draft Bill

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has announced the launch of nationwide validation workshops for the Draft Innovation and Start-Up Bill, a pioneering legislation designed to strengthen Ghana’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Developed in collaboration with private sector actors, the Draft Bill seeks to provide a clear legal and regulatory framework to support research, start-ups, and innovation enterprises. It is also expected to promote entrepreneurship and drive economic growth and job creation across the country.

According to the Ministry, the validation workshops are part of ongoing stakeholder consultations aimed at ensuring inclusivity and broad-based input in shaping the final legislation. Participants in the exercise will include government agencies, private sector representatives, academia, research institutions, technology hubs, and civil society organisations.

The Ministry emphasised that the Draft Innovation and Start-Up Bill is a key step towards positioning Ghana as a hub for innovation and digital entrepreneurship in Africa, while also fostering a supportive environment for young innovators and start-ups to thrive.
