Ghana, Japan sign over $23m grant facilities for road, health projects

Ghana and Japan have signed two grant agreements valued at about 3.5 billion Japanese Yen ($23 million) to support key infrastructure and health projects in the country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who disclosed this in a post on X on Friday, October 3, 2025, said the facilities would finance the Kumasi Inner City Road Improvement Project and the Northern Region Improvement of Health Care System Project.

He explained that the agreements were signed on Thursday, October 2, with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, representing his country.

The projects are expected to boost road infrastructure in the Ashanti Region and improve access to healthcare facilities in the Northern Region.

“The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and I yesterday signed two grant facilities for the Kumasi Inner City Ring Road Improvement Project and the Northern Region Improvement of Health Care System Project,” the minister stated.

Ablakwa welcomed the development, describing it as another milestone in the long-standing cooperation between Ghana and Japan.

He noted that the new facilities are a direct outcome of President John Dramani Mahama’s recent working visit to Japan, during which pledges were made to support Ghana’s development agenda.
