Over the weekend, Ghana’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Kojo Bonsu, participated in two key events that underscored the growing importance of Ghana-China relations. On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Ambassador Bonsu was the special guest of honour at the Akwaaba Night hosted by the Beijing Students Union of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). The event, held in Beijing, welcomed new Ghanaian students to the Chinese capital. In his address, Ambassador Bonsu urged the students to be visionary, innovative, and creative in their pursuit of academic and professional excellence. He encouraged them to leverage their experiences in China to contribute to Ghana’s development, pointing to China’s progress in trade, technology and infrastructure as a model of transformation achieved through determination and strategic planning. The Ambassador also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Ghanaian students in China, stressing that he operates an open-door policy and welcomes regular engagement with the student community. He assured them that the embassy remains accessible to address their concerns and foster collaboration. His warm and approachable demeanor earned him the affectionate nickname “Gen Z President” among the students. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Ambassador Bonsu attended the Sino-Africa Healthcare Cooperation Forum at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Beijing. The forum, which brought together policymakers, health experts and investors, focused on strengthening healthcare partnerships between China and Africa. Speaking at the event, the Ambassador emphasised that healthcare is a cornerstone of national development, adding that African nations must prioritize robust healthcare systems in their development agendas. He revealed that Ghana is currently working to restructure its health sector with support from China, particularly in exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for medical diagnostics. Ambassador Bonsu highlighted China’s advancements in AI as a valuable resource for collaboration, noting that such partnerships could significantly enhance healthcare delivery across Africa. These back-to-back engagements reflect Ambassador Bonsu’s proactive approach to deepening Ghana-China relations, fostering student empowerment and promoting bilateral cooperation in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.
