Genesee County community to celebrate all things fall this weekend

FLUSHING, MI – Those looking to celebrate all things fall will have a chance to do so in this northern Genesee County community.
The Flushing Harvest Fest is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 in several parts of the community, including downtown on Main Street as well as Riverview Park.
Downtown activities are set to include music provided by DJ Lits, Michigan wine tasting from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Main Street Treasures, 118 E. Main St., a mobile bus with blood pressure checks, flu vaccines, and more provided by Memorial Healthcare, giveaways provided by Security Credit Union, football toss and soccer provided by ELGA Credit Union, Plinko game with prizes provided by Sam’s Club, a coloring contest provided by Squeeze The Day, as well as food, arts and crafts and vendors.
A pie baking contest, sponsored by SisCo Salon & Spa, will also be taking place. The pies be homemade and delivered between 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. to the Flushing Chamber of Commerce office, 309 E. Main St.
All pies will be sold to the highest bidder at the pie auction at 2:10 p.m. in the Entertainment Area.
A scarecrow contest, sponsored by Rossell Funeral Home, will also occur, with the creations made by community members lining Main Street during the festival.
Others looking to flex their decorating skills can sign up for a sidewalk chalk art contest, sponsored by Flushing Family Dentistry, taking place at Cornwell Park, 150 E. Main St.
Those participating in the contest must bring their own supplies and complete their artwork between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Here’s a look at the scheduled activities along Main Street:
9:30 a.m.: Flushing High School marching band, performing The Star-Spangled Banner
10 a.m.: Diaper Derby (sign up on site, age groups: 6-9 months, 10-13 months, 14-18 months, 19-22 months)
10:30 a.m.: Heian Karate Do, demonstration
10:50 a.m.: Flushing Youth Cheer, performance by Freshman White
11 a.m.: Judy’s School of Dance, performance
11:20 a.m.: The Rockin’ Marching Grannies, performance
11:40 a.m.: Andrej Palinsky Studio of Dance, performance
Noon: Pie eating contest (sign up on site, age groups: 3-6 years, 7-11 years, 12-15 years, mature-adult option)
1 p.m.: Flushing Youth Cheer, performance by JV Black
1:10 p.m. Center Stage Dance Academy, performance
1:30 p.m.: Flushing Youth Cheer, performance by Freshman Orange
2 p.m.: Flushing Youth Cheer, performance by JV White
2:10 p.m.: Scarecrow Decorating and Pie Baking Contest winners announced, Pie Auction
2:50 p.m.: Flushing Youth Cheer, performance by JV Orange
3 p.m.: Beard & Mullet Contest, sponsored by Bruski’s Barber & Styling (need to be entered by 2:30 p.m. at the Main Street Entertainment Area, 121 E. Main St. Judging begins at 3 p.m.)
3:30 p.m.: Pet Costume Contest, provided by Humane Society of Genesee County
Activities in Riverview Park will include an inflatables play area, food trucks and more provided by Westside Church, goat zoo area and painting, Yoga with Kennedy at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., Flushing Farmer’s Market provided by the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee, and $3 pay-to-play mobile miniature golf provided by Haywire Event Rental.
The Flushing Harvest Fest Cornament, or cornhole tournament, will also take place at noon in Riverview Park, 230 S. Cherry St, with registration for the tournament beginning at 11 a.m.
Those wishing to enter must pay a $50 per team fee, which will pay out the top three teams and last place by SisCo Salon & Spa.
