Its three-episode premiere reveals what happened to Andre Anderson
Chance Perdomo, who played Andre in season 1, died in March 2024
Gen V season 2 has premiered on Prime Video, and The Boys spin-off wastes no time paying tribute to one of its late cast members.
Chance Perdomo, who played Andre Anderson in the Amazon TV Original’s first season, died following a motorbike accident in March 2024. Understandably, it was, and still is, a tragedy felt deeply by the show’s cast and crew.
In the days following Perdomo’s death, Gen V’s creative team confirmed they wouldn’t recast the character for the show’s second season. Its story would be revised to reflect Perdomo’s death and, by proxy, Anderson’s in-universe demise.

With season 2’s first three episodes out now on Prime Video, we finally know how Gen V’s writing team decided to navigate this emotionally devastating real-world event and honor Perdomo in the best and most sensitive way possible.
Full spoilers immediately follow for season 2’s three-episode premiere.

At the end of season 2 episode 1, titled ‘New Year, New You’, Jordan and Emma are finally reunited with Marie following the latter’s escape from Elmira Adult Rehabilitation Center. Remember, the trio and Andre were imprisoned there after the cataclysmic events that transpired at Godolkin University, which involved the quartet, in Gen V season 1’s finale.
Over the course of ‘New Year, New You’, we learn that Marie broke out of the facility and, in the process, left her friends behind. It’s a betrayal most keenly felt by Jordan, who continues to hold Marie’s selfish actions over her head for most of season 2’s opening three entries.

Considering she bolted alone, Marie has no idea that Andre is dead. Like the rest of us, she also has no clue what happened to him off-camera that led to his passing. Before season 2 debuted on Prime Video, the best theory we had was that he’d died as the result of a botched experiment at Elmira.
We were wrong to assume that. In fact, Andre bowed out in the most heroic way possible: protecting his friends and trying to help them escape.

As Jordan reveals to Marie – and, by proxy, one of the best Prime Video shows’ fanbase – in episode 1’s final scene, Andre located a hidden maintenance pipe that he, Jordan, and Emma could use to flee the coup. Unfortunately, on the night they try to make a break for it, the pipe has been bricked up and security has been tightened. Clearly, someone knew they would attempt to escape. Either that or, following Marie’s own jailbreak, Elmira’s forces have bolstered their security measures to ensure no-one else can get out.

Desperate but undeterred, the trio find an exit, albeit one blocked by a giant, heavy steel door. Andre, whose abilities allow him to manipulate metal, tries to use his powers to budge it, but fails to do so.
Continuing her story, Jordan tells Marie that she begged Andre to stop, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. Summoning all of his strength, Andre repeatedly attempted to move the door, which leads to him over-exerting himself, collapsing, and having a fatal stroke.
Remember, in season 1, Andre’s father Polarity, who also possesses metal manipulation powers, suffered a near-fatal seizure because, every time he uses his abilities, they create micro-tears in his brain that destroy his neural pathways. As such, Polarity is instructed to stop using his powers immediately.
As a fellow metal-bender, Andre knew a similar fate could befall him if he continued to his own powers and/or over-extend himself. By choosing to do just that in a bid to help his friends escape Elmira, Andre’s death is not only an incredibly heroic one, but a perfect albeit heart-breaking way to give Chance Perdomo the send-off he deserves. Rest in peace, Chance.
