Gemini AI Arrives on Google Drive for Android and iOS

Google is slowly integrating its Gemini AI across multiple products and services. The company had previously introduced Gemini to Google Drive on the web, and now it looks like the experience is finally coming to iOS and Android. There was actually some code hinting at this earlier this year, but now it is finally here.
Gemini finally comes to Google Drive on Android
According to Google, “We have previously launched the ability for users on the web to collaborate with Gemini in Google Drive. Now, we’re excited to extend Gemini’s capabilities to users on mobile in the Drive apps for Android and iOS. This integration empowers Drive users of the mobile apps to seamlessly ask questions about their files and folders and receive conversational responses, mirroring the existing functionality available on Drive Web.”
For the most part, the Gemini capabilities on Google Drive for Android mirror its web counterpart. Users can use the AI to quickly summarize documents or even folders. It can even pull information from multiple files to synthesize information. It can even pull up information from projects or a topic without you having to locate the file first.
The web version of Gemini also has a feature that analyzes videos. However, we’re not sure if Google has brought this feature to the Android version of Drive yet. In any case, it’s still a pretty cool update. If you’re someone who’s constantly on the move, having AI access would be extremely useful, especially if you need to summarize long reports and documents.
When and where?
Google says that the feature is rolling out over the coming weeks. It is available for Google Workspace subscribers, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Pro for Education, and Google One AI Premium. If you’re a free user, you’ll have to sit this one out. However, seeing as how Google sometimes eventually brings some paid features to its free users, maybe it’ll be available at a later date.
If you are subscribed to Google Workspace, Gemini’s integration in the app can be accessed from several locations. This includes the top-right corner of the app, document viewer, and overflow menus.
