The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) once again proved their dominance on the local amateur boxing scene after retaining their overall elite title at the Terrence Poole Memorial National Intermediate Boxing Tournament, which concluded in the early hours of Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The lawmen of the Guyana Police Force finished second after two days of fierce competition hosted by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA). The night’s action began in the schoolboys’ 43–46kg final where Josh Chester of the Andrew Lewis “Six Head” Boxing Gym got things underway with a victory over his gym mate Itavius Vanderstoup, claiming the first title of the evening. In the junior 51–53kg final, Isaiah Nurse of the Andrew Lewis Gym secured his crown by walkover after opponent Jonathan Ellis failed to appear.
