Sunil Gavaskar has promised to do a jamming session with Jemimah Rodrigues if India were to beat South Africa and win the 2025 Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The former batting legend said if Rodrigues consents, he’d love to sing along while she plays her guitar, just like they did impromptu at a BCCI awards function in 2024, to celebrate the prospective historic achievement. Gavaskar’s comments came a day after India beat defending champions and inarguably the best team in the world, Australia, in the semi-final on Thursday. Rodrigues top-scored with a stunning 126 not out, the highest individual score in an ODI chase for India, as the Women in Blue chased down 339, the highest ever in ODIs. “If India win the World Cup, she and I, if she’s okay with it, will sing a song together,” Gavaskar told Sports Today. “She’ll have her guitar, and I’ll sing along. We actually did that once at one of the BCCI awards a couple of years back. There was a band playing, and we just decided to join in. She was on the guitar, and I sang with my whatever voice I have. But if India win, I would love to do it again-if she is happy to do that, happy to do that with an old man. I am all for it,” he added. Considering himself India’s biggest fan, Gavaskar has always been big on such gestures and superstitions to support the team. During the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, it was his ‘lucky jacket’ that became almost as iconic as India’s triumph itself. Throughout the tournament, held in February and March, Gavaskar, on commentary duty, sported his trademark white jacket, the same one he wore during India’s famous Gabba Test victory in 2021. Believing it to be his good luck charm, he even promised captain Shubman Gill he’d wear it for every crucial game. And when India beat New Zealand in the final, the legend couldn’t contain his joy, proudly pointing to his jacket and breaking into a childlike dance in the commentary box, a moment that instantly went viral
