Gary Neville Worried About ‘Awkward’ Star After Nottingham Forest Draw

Gary Neville has claimed the “jury is out” on one Manchester United summer signing, saying he “looks awkward” and “well off it” following the Red Devils' 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. Ruben Amorim’s side had appeared to turn a corner prior to the weekend, winning three straight Premier League games for the first time in his tenure. But despite leading 1-0 at halftime against relegation candidates Forest, United found themselves behind within minutes of the restart, before needing Amad Diallo to rescue a point. It was a performance that served as a stark reminder that not everything can be fixed overnight under a manager who has yet to prove he can steady the ship long-term at Old Trafford. There are still plenty of issues to iron out, but one problem that shouldn’t even be on the radar lies with the attacking unit. Amorim was handed more than £150 million to strengthen his forward line over the summer, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko arriving in hopes of finally putting long-term attacking woes to bed. Yet, it’s the latter who has found himself in the firing line from Neville. Gary Neville Worried About "Awkward" Benjamin Sesko Sesko has endured an underwhelming start to his Man United career following a £74m move from RB Leipzig in the summer, and the Slovenian international has scored just two goals in 11 appearances for United, now going five successive games without finding the back of the net. At the City Ground, the 22-year-old received the lowest Sofascore rating of any player for his 90-minute performance. He failed to hit the target with any of his three shot attempts, completed just nine of 13 passes, didn’t manage a single successful dribble, and lost both of his aerial duels. Speaking about him after the match, Neville told NBC Sports: "I’m no further forward with him. The jury is out. "He’s well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo. He looks awkward, he had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half when balls got played over the top and his touch wasn’t quite right. For 80 million pound, you can say he’s young, has a lot of potential and is only just settling in, but you still want to see a bit more." So far, both Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike have proven to be better signings for Arsenal and Liverpool, respectively. But with United currently sitting seventh after 10 games, it’s far from the end of the world. This is especially true given that Mbeumo has shown encouraging form of late, which could lay the groundwork for an exciting attacking trio in the future.
