Gary Neville toasts arrival of new Chotto Matte restaurant at glitzy VIP launch

Former Manchester United legend Gary Neville toasted the arrival of the new Chotto Matte restaurant on the top floor of his huge St Michael’s development at a glitzy launch party.

The Japanese-Peruvian restaurant is aiming to bring “high-energy nightlife” to the heart of the city with spectacular 360 views on its wraparound roof terrace.

And to celebrate its Manchester arrival, a spectacular opening party was thrown by the global restaurant brand on Tuesday night.

Guests were welcomed by the rhythm of Japanese Taiko drummers at the entrance, walking a purple carpet with a newspaper style Chotto Matte branded press board.

The event attracted Manchester’s fash pack, with a stylish crowd of celebrities, influencers, and leading figures from Manchester’s business and cultural scene.

Former England and Reds legend Gary headed along to the bash with wife Emma, and was also joined by fellow Red Nicky Butt at the event.

Famous faces also included former Corrie stars (and real-life cousins) Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach, model Rhian Sugden and Real Housewives of Cheshire star Lauren Simon.

The event offered VIP guests a first look inside the 20,000 sq ft venue – the brand’s second UK location and its first in the North of England. With panoramic views across the Manchester skyline, the venue is a showpiece within the £400 million St Michael’s development.

Entertainment was non-stop, with a high energy performance from Manchester’s Mason Collective, sets from Chotto Matte’s resident DJ inside and outside, and a vibrant mix of Harajuku-style Japanese performers alongside a live Mariachi band.

A highlight of the evening was the traditional Sake Ceremony, a signature element at every Chotto Matte launch. Following a welcome speech by Founder Kurt Zdesar, a 72-litre barrel of sake was unveiled and ceremoniously opened. Guests were then invited to partake in the celebration with a round of sake shots, adding an authentic touch.

Guests enjoyed a curated menu of signature dishes, including sashimi, ceviche and mini churros – while guests could also have a slick of caviar placed on their hand to lick off.
