Samsung looks to be all set to announce its first triple-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, and even though the device is expected to be limited to a few markets, it was high time that we saw smartphones gravitate to a new form factor. Just before the official announcement happens, a series of images provides a first look at the Galaxy Z TriFold, showing a dual-infolding structure that can transform into a large-screen tablet. The Galaxy Z TriFold was on display at the Samsung booth at the K-Tech Showcase, with one report stating that the prototype did not display any visible crease No specification details are currently available other than the visible unit that was on display at the K-Tech Showcase, which Korean outlet Dailian states is a side-event of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit held at the Air Dome in Gyeongju Expo Park on October 28. Visitors can easily view the Galaxy Z TriFold prototype through a glass case, with the top image uploaded by notable tipster Ice Universe on Weibo. The device sports a G-shaped dual-infolding structure, which, as the name suggests, allows the Galaxy Z TriFold to be folded inwards. Since there are three displays instead of two, there are two hinges at the folding section keeping the smartphone from coming apart, and when it is completely unfolded, its display size is comparable to a 10-inch tablet. The report says that the prototype put on display did not show any visible creases, so we will have to see if the commercial units sport the same design properties. At this time, the Galaxy Z TriFold only has one competitor, which is the Huawei Mate XTs, but there have been reports that the latter suffers from durability problems, along with weaker hardware. Naturally, Samsung has the opportunity to capitalize on whatever limited market this form factor has carved out for itself, but we doubt that there will be tons of adopters lined up to make the Galaxy Z TriFold their daily driver because the price will be steep.
