A major retailer has announced the sudden closure of a Scots branch after six years of trading. Following the news, the firm has announced a “biggest ever” closing down sale. The Designer Rooms announced on social media that it will be permanently shuttering its branch based in Glasgow’s Silverburn Shopping Centre at the end of the year when its lease agreement closes. First opened in 2019, the branch is the flagship location for the luxury homeware store that specialises in designer home furnishings and accessories such as sofas, home décor items, chests of drawers and bed frames. In an announcement to Facebook yesterday, September 21, the firm said: “We are absolutely gutted to announce that our Silverburn lease is ending at the end of this year. “When we opened in 2019, we were just a family-run, Ayrshire based business who signed a one year lease, but six amazing years later it is now time for our Silverburn chapter to close.” While the company confirmed there were “a few exciting things happening in the background”, it has closed its Silverburn store today, September 22 and tomorrow Tuesday, September 24, to reduce the price of “every single item”. The store will then be reopened to the public at 10am on Wednesday, September 24, for the “biggest ever end of lease sale you have ever seen.” With prices reduced across every item in store, the company further advised shoppers to “be early” as to avoid disappointment when heading to make some bargains later this week. The closure announcement has since been viewed 129,000 times since it was posted, while over 100 shoppers have left a comment tagging their friends and family in the news, with some responding with a crying emoji. The Designer Rooms was first established in 2010 in the town of Ayr, Ayrshire and has since opened further showrooms across Glasgow, Irvine, Kilmarnock and Wishaw. News of the retailer’s Silverburn closure comes just after it was announced that a new The Designer Rooms Clearance outlet had opened in the Braehead Shopping Centre . Located a few doors down from the firm’s main showroom in the same shopping centre, the store opening was announced on TikTok and came with a limited-time sale that offered up to 70 percent off. It’s not the only high street closure we have recently reported on, as the Sony Centre based on Falkirk’s Galloway Court officially closed over the weekend after 22 years of trading. First opened in 2003, the electronics store pulled down its shutters for the final time on Saturday, September 20, citing spiralling costs and switch to online shopping as the main reasons for the decision. Both The Designer Rooms and the Sony Centre both join a growing list of closures announcements across Scotland, with many retailers battling rising rent costs, national insurance contributions and changing shopping habits. Meanwhile, there is some good news to offset the bad news surrounding our high street, as we have experienced new openings with Haribo’s store in Silverburn, alongside announcements from Uniqlo, Rituals and Miniso.
