Funeral home worker's tragic last voicemail for wife as he was crushed by concrete tomb

A woman has opened up about her husband's heartbreaking final moments before he was crushed beneath a burial vault, including the last voicemail he left her. Angel Anthony Rojas had been employed by Restland Funeral Home, where he worked as a machine operator. His role involved using equipment to lift heavy burial vault s - enclosures used to protect buried coffins, and the bodies inside, from the elements. Last week, on October 20, Angel had been out working in the storage yard when tragedy struck. One of the concrete vaults, which weighed nearly 2,000 pounds, fell on top of him, pinning him helplessly to the ground. After calling for help, Angel called his wife, Nataly Galaviz, one last time, leaving a panicked voicemail message. Just one week before the horrific accident, the couple had been discussing plans to buy a home together, but suddenly, their dreams were dashed in an instant. In an interview with CBS News, Nataly, from Dallas, Texas, shared: "My husband was pinned under a vault pleading for help and pleading for air. He just wanted to be held and was scared. He told me he wanted to go home." Speaking with WFAA, Dallas Fire Rescue told of how, when firefighters arrived at the scene, Angel was discovered crushed from the waist down by the vault. It took more than 45 minutes for first responders to free him using hydraulic spreaders and airbags. Sadly, he did not survive his devastating injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Angel, who was dad to three-year-old Angel Noel Rojas, was known to be a dedicated employee who took pride in his work, helping grieving families in their hour of need. Nataly remembered: "He was proud of what he was doing for families, helping families and being there during their grief." Litigation attorney Matthew Graham, who represents the grieving family, has claimed that Angel had been working by himself on what ought to have been a job for two or three employees. He now expects to file a gross negligence lawsuit against Restland Funeral Home Addressing a press conference, Nataly stated: "My husband was a smart worker. My husband knew the risk of a small error. My husband knew the precautions to everything he was doing. I don't know what happened. But whatever did happen, he never should have been there alone." Graham said: "If there's one thing we can do for his memory and for this family, it's to try to keep this from happening to anybody else, to try to bring some attention to this, and shed some light on what's going on over there." It's understood that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is now carrying out an investigation into this incident. The Mirror has contacted Restland Funeral Home for comment.
