Full list of flood alerts in North Wales amid 'unable to cope' warning

Three flood alerts are in place across North Wales amid warnings of “torrential rainfall”. The Met Office has issued an updated weather warning that suggests up to 80mm of rain could fall in places today (Saturday, September 20) and overnight .

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said a large area of the country could be affected. The deluge could leave drains, ditches and watercourses “unable to cope”, leading to flooding impacts on roads and property.

This morning the A483 Carmarthen Road near Swansea has been partly blocked by flooding.

Rivers reached high levels following Wednesday’s deluge (September 17) but already they are higher in places like the Afon Gwyrfai at Bontnewydd, Gwynedd.

So far, levels are lower on the Afon Conwy at Cwmlanerch and the Afon Glaslyn at Beddgelert – but the Met Office rain alert continues until 3am tomorrow (Sunday, September 21).

This warns that 20-30 mm of rain is likely to fall across much of Wales and there is a chance of some areas seeing 60-80mm of rain. Sign up now for the latest news on the North Wales Live Whatsapp community

The forecaster added: “These higher accumulations may not be confined to high ground only. Due to this uncertainty, further changes to the warning area are possible.”

Across Wales, NRW has issued six flooding alerts in river catchment areas. The three in North Wales are described below.

Glaslyn and Dwyryd catchment

Areas around the river Glaslyn and river Dwyryd, from Dyffryn Ardudwy to Nant Gwynant. Rainfall is currently affecting this area. River levels are above normal levels.

North Gwynedd catchment

Areas around the rivers of north west Wales, from Abergwyngregyn to Aberdaron. River levels are above normal levels.

Conwy catchment

Areas around the river Conwy from Dolwyddelan to Conwy. Flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected.

NRW said it will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
