South Ayrshire Council is encouraging everyone to get into the seasonal spirit- with a Festive Family Fun day. Get ready to start your seasonal celebrations with the local authority’s big day in Ayr Town Centre – including the Christmas lights switch-on at 5pm. On Sunday, November 16, there will be a host of free activities in Ayr Town Centre to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit. Come along between 1.30pm to 5.30pm to experience some fantastic stage entertainment, Christmas markets, festive photo opportunities, and interactive attractions. Activities will be held across Ayr High Street, The Cutty Sark Centre, and The Grain Exchange with entertainment on two stages - the Dance Extravaganza Stage and The Cutty Sark Main Stage. On the Dance Extravaganza Stage, located at the bottom of Ayr High Street, there’s a jam-packed schedule of performances from talented local dancers aged between 2 and 22, showcasing a variety of dance styles. A spokesperson said: “On the Cutty Sark Main Stage, celebrate the stars of South Ayrshire with local youngsters showing off their talents throughout the day. As we approach the big countdown, we’ll see Ayr’s very own Jai McDowall take to the stage, followed by Scotland Rocks who will entertain the crowd until the festive lights go on! “There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained with festive face painting and balloon modelling, Christmas craft activities in the Kids Zone, Santa’s Grotto, and the Santa Express Train – all for FREE – or why not enjoy the thrills of the funfair?" Looking for Christmas gifts for your loved ones? There will be two fabulous Christmas markets in The Grain Exchange and on the High Street, all showcasing goods from local traders. And there are plenty of opportunities to snap a festive photo to remember the day – including the Snow White scene, Giant Christmas Wish Tree, and Giant Christmas deck chair. South Ayrshire Council’s Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, said: “Our Festive Family Fun day is a brilliant way to kick off the festive season in South Ayrshire. “With plenty of activities and attractions to keep the kids entertained, this event is the perfect day out for families. It’s also a great opportunity to browse for some Christmas presents amongst our market traders and local businesses in the area.” Councillor Clark, whose portfolio includes cultural services and tourism continued: “Plus, the Christmas lights switch on will take place during the event. This is a highlight of the afternoon and something we all look forward to each year. The festive lights help to create a jolly and welcoming atmosphere in the town centre and build excitement in the run up to the holidays.” You can see the full line-up of activities and entertainment here - https://destinationsouthayrshire.co.uk/south-ayrshire-christmas/festive-family-fun/ Please note there will be a charge for funfair rides.
