From eligibility to risks involved: What you should know about BBL

Brazilian butt lift (BBL), also known as buttock augmentation, is a procedure done to improve the appearance of the butt, carried out by plastic surgeons. They remove fat deposits from other parts of the body and insert them into the buttocks. After recovery, the butt becomes bigger with a different shape. The area where fat was removed becomes smooth. It is expected or believed that BBL can last for several years. You might not even need a follow-up treatment after a decade of the procedure. However, as we age, our bodies change. So, you might experience certain changes in your body, which is why it is safe to maintain a healthy weight. Before your doctor goes ahead with the process of the butt lift, you would be sedated so that you won’t feel any pain in the course of it. The affected area is then wrapped with a compression band to reduce bleeding. After the butt lift, you may feel weak and in a lot of pain. At this stage, you would still need to be monitored until you’re fit for discharge. Your recovery could take up to six months, and doing simple exercises might be necessary, like leg lifts and squats. To help you manage the pain, your plastic surgeon might prescribe some medications for you. After one or two weeks, you should feel a little bit relieved. A compression garment around the liposuction might also be necessary, and if you have excess blood, it may be drained through the incision. For at least two weeks, you may not be able to sit or lie down. You can sleep on your sides and stand. A pillow that helps in distributing pressure evenly may be recommended to help you sit after about eight weeks. Who is eligible for BBL? Even though opting to do a Brazilian butt lift is a personal decision, you still need to meet certain requirements. 1. You must be physically fit. 2. You must have enough body fat on other parts of your body. 3. You must be at least 18 years of age. 4. You must be mentally stable. Note that if you’re not fully developed, it can affect the result of the buttocks lift. Your inner and outer thighs, hips, and lower back region will all be examined by your doctor. Risks of BBL There are risks of BBL to your health as it can lead to severe injury or death. 1. You may end up having bruises. 2. You can also get infected. 3. The surgery can lead to injury or death. 4. Your butt can keep swelling. 5. Unhealing wounds. 6. Skin discolouration. 7. The affected area may contain fluid.
