Irene Tressa Boby, associate software engineer at Fidelity Investments Ireland, traces her technology journey back to a simple curiosity — a love for understanding how things work and solving puzzles. “I have always enjoyed figuring out how things work and solving puzzles,” she says. That early interest evolved into a passion during her Transition Year in secondary school, when she participated in a coding programme and built her first web page: “I was hooked! I loved the creativity of designing and bringing ideas to life.” While studying Computer Science at university, Irene completed an eight-month internship at Fidelity Investments Ireland. The experience exposed her to the breadth of opportunities within the tech industry and inspired her to continue exploring the field. She later returned to Fidelity through its Technology Graduate Programme, where she benefited from strong mentorship and support from her peers. “I have been fortunate to receive incredible mentorship and guidance from my peers,” she shares. “It has helped me grow both professionally and personally.” Reflecting on her journey, Irene emphasises that there is no single path into a career in technology: “Whether it is through college, apprenticeships, internships, or self-learning, what matters most is curiosity and a willingness to keep learning.” Her message to students considering a future in tech is clear: do not be afraid to explore. “Try coding games, join tech clubs, or take online courses — even small steps can spark something big,” she advises. “You do not need to have all the answers right now. Tech is for everyone, and your unique perspective matters. Believe in yourself, ask questions, and stay open to new possibilities. The journey is yours to shape.”
