GRAND BLANC, MI - Henry Ford Health will offer free lung cancer screenings this Saturday, Nov. 8, at Henry Ford Genesys Imaging in Grand Blanc as part of National Lung Cancer Screening Day, an effort to detect the disease earlier and save lives. The screening uses a low-dose CT scan that can identify lung cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, but early detection significantly improves survival rates. To help raise awareness, the health system brought a large inflatable lung to its campuses this week, showing how smoking impacts lung tissue and how early-stage cancer can be identified. “It’s the most important thing people can do for their health, and it gives us the biggest opportunity to reduce people’s chances of dying from lung cancer by 25%,” Dr. Adam Forman , medical director at Henry Ford Providence Southfield Cancer Center, said in a statement. “When people come in for our Saturday screening program, they’re usually here for less than an hour.” Screenings are available for people ages 50 to 77 who have a history of smoking the equivalent of one pack a day for 20 years and who still smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. The event will take place at Henry Ford Genesys Imaging, 600 Health Park Blvd., Suite B, in Grand Blanc.
