A free medical camp for home guards was inaugurated by G.V. Selvam, vice-president, VIT University and Chairman of Vellore International School (VIS) Chennai, at the Police Welfare Centre in Old Town that comes under Vellore Corporation limits. According to a press release, the day-long camp provided general medical check-ups, cardiac evaluations, dental check-ups, and orthopedic assessments, along with Siddha and Ayurveda treatments. The camp was jointly organised by Thalaimurai Peravai, a local voluntary organisation and Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre (SNHRC). A large number of Home Guard personnel from Vellore and neighbouring districts benefited from the camp. Free medicines and health supplements were also distributed to the participants. In his address, Mr. Selvam appreciated the exemplary service and tireless efforts of the members of the Tamil Nadu Home Guards. He acknowledged their valuable contribution towards community welfare. On the occasion, R. Chandrasekar, who runs an orphanage, was given a lifetime achievement award in the presence of G. Dharmarajan, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Vellore, the release said.
