Franklin & Marshall cancels Monday classes as it remains without power

The work to return power at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster is going to take longer than hoped. The communications office on Sunday evening announced that Monday classes are cancelled, and faculty have been asked to be flexible in accommodating students as we continue restoration work. In addition, Roschel College House will be closed again Sunday night, with the school arranging alternative housing accommodations for its residents. Housing staff are in direct communication with affected students to coordinate these arrangements The outage started when a transformer malfunctioned on Saturday morning. All on-campus events on Sunday and Monday have been canceled, the school announced, noting that some might be rescheduled to a later date. Also: On Monday, faculty and professional staff should not come to campus and should work with supervisors on remote work plans, if possible. Essential personnel are to report to campus per their supervisor’s instructions. The Ben Franklin Dining Hall will remain open until 9 p.m. Sunday and will open again on Monday, with extended hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., continuously. The dining hall has full power, and students are encouraged to visit for meals and community space. The Student Wellness Center will be open on Monday during its normal business hours on Monday. Shadek-Fackenthal Library, Martin Library, the ASFC, academic buildings, and other facilities that were closed this weekend will remain closed through the evening and until further notice.
