Frank Grillo (“The Purge,” “Kingdom”) and Maria Bakalova (“The Apprentice,” “Borat Subsequent Movie Film”) are set to lead upcoming sci-fi survival thriller “Override.” The film — which went into production this month in Belfast — is being launched at the upcoming American Film Market by Capture, the sales company launched earlier this year as a joint venture between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment. Described as a “pulse-pounding thriller,” “Override” is directed and co-written by Jordan Downey (“The Head Hunter,” “The Cycle”) alongside writers Jackson Murray and Kevin Stewart. The film follows futuristic soldier (Bakalova) who is left for dead. But with the help of a synthetic angel (Grillo) — the latest in battlefield A.I. — she must fight against the clock to survive a mortal wound. It reunites Grillo and Bakalova after the two both lent their voices to James Gunn’s adult animated superhero series “Creature Commandos,” which launched late last year. “Override” is produced by James Harris from Tea Shop Productions, behind hit films including “Fall,” “Obsession” and “47 Meters Down” (and Michael Downey (“The Big Ugly,” “The Swallow”). It was financed by Christian Mercuri’s Capstone. In addition to handling international sales on “Override,” Capture’s slate also includes sports thriller “Killa Bee” starring Daisy Ridley, shark thriller “Above & Below” starring Antonio Banderas, action-adventure thriller “Dark Jungle” and crime thriller “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain.” Upcoming releases for Tea Shop include “Giant,” starring Amir El-Masry and starring Pierce Brosnan and “Obsession” from director Curry Barker. Grillo is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, 42West, and Paul Hastings. Bakalova is represented by CAA, Insight Management, Brookside Artist Management and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman.
