Francis Ngannou couldn’t be more wrong about a fight against Jon Jones - the ship has long sailed

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has got it totally wrong regarding a potential fight against Jon Jones. When Francis Ngannou was reigning over the UFC heavyweight division, many fans thought he could be unbeatable and were excited for his reign as champion. Despite that, he opted to walk away from the promotion in 2023 in search of greener grass, and somehow, he thought that would be in the PFL, where he has since only fought once. But his relationship with the PFL is seemingly becoming strained, and it is unclear how much longer he will be with them. So much so that he is even once again attempting to drum up interest in a fight against Jon Jones. Francis Ngannou claims he vs Jon Jones would be the biggest fight ever When ‘The Predator’ was the UFC heavyweight champion, Jones declared that he was making his move up to heavyweight, which immediately got fans excited for that potential clash. However, it never came to fruition because of Ngannou’s exit, but he continues to deny it was his fault. UFC boss Dana White says differently, though, as he claims that Ngannou never really wanted a fight against Jones. And although it seemed as though talks regarding that fantasy fight had finally died down, they have been re-sparked by none other than Ngannou. Recently, ‘Bones’ accepted a fight callout from UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, and that potential clash has been labeled as potentially ‘the biggest fight in human history’ by Joe Rogan. Ngannou doesn’t think so, though. ‘The Predator’ believes the biggest fight ever would be between him and Jones on the UFC White House event next year. Ngannou, you’re wrong, no one is interested anymore The 39-year-old has read the room completely wrong. One of the most important aspects of combat sports is activity, and when a fighter who is at the tail-end of his career has not been active and talks about making a comeback, it just doesn’t hit like it did three years ago. Unfortunately for Ngannou, he is somewhat the forgotten heavyweight. Not only that, but the UFC fanbase has seemingly grown tired of Jones’ retirement antics and don’t actually seem too interested in seeing him return either. A fight between Jones and Ngannou three years ago could’ve been hellacious, but the ship has sailed. There is a reason why ‘Poatan’ is one of the biggest current stars in combat sports, and that is because he has been extremely active over the last few years, despite his age. For Ngannou, he is better off continuing to ‘chase the bag’ by fighting in influencer boxing or against someone like Deontay Wilder, because as far as his MMA career is concerned, fans think it has been over ever since he left the UFC, and he is proving them right.
