Marbella became a shining star of compassion in summer 2025 as the Aloha Golf Club hosted a charity golf tournament that brought laughter, competition, and a shared commitment to a vital cause. Organised by DEBRA Piel de Mariposa, the event was the grand finale of the organisation’s summer fundraising efforts, which managed to raise an impressive €47,500 to support individuals living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), commonly known as Butterfly Skin. The funds will sustain specialised care for those affected by this rare condition, which causes fragile skin that blisters and wounds with the slightest touch and impacts up to 80 per cent of the body. For families struggling with the daily challenges of EB, where simple tasks like dressing or eating require hours of meticulous care, the support is a lifeline. Evanina Morcillo, director of DEBRA, stressed the need for the role of their specialised nurses: “They don’t just treat wounds; they ease uncertainties and train healthcare professionals unfamiliar with the condition.” The tournament, played under the individual Stableford format, was a sold-out success, with a waiting list which showed the community’s enthusiasm for helping all they could. Other than the fairways, the event encouraged a connection through raffles, prizes, and a closing cocktail celebration, which all helped transform a day of sport into a heartfelt display of giving. Since 1993, the organisation DEBRA Piel de Mariposa has worked tirelessly to raise awareness, train professionals, support families, and co-fund research for EB. The €47,500 raised will ensure continued care and guidance for affected families over the next year. In Marbella, this summer, the butterfly’s wings soared, lifted by a community that proved supporting others is a beautiful act of hope and humanity.
