Jamal Mohamed College has been recognised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay as the ‘Open Source Geospatial Knowledge Centre’ for Tiruchi district under the auspices of Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education Geographic Information System (FOSSE GIS). According to an official release, the acknowledgement of the recognition was handed over by Mohamed Kasim Khan, national coordinator-FOSSEE GIS, National Mission on Education through ICT, at IIT-Bombay to college secretary and correspondent A.K. Khaja Nazeemudeen on Friday as part of the proceedings of a workshop on the usage of free open source software, hardware, and geospatial tools in academia and industry. In his addresss, Mr. Khan spoke about the benefits of open source software and geospatial tools in education. D.I. George Amalarethinam, principal and head, Department of Computer Science, spoke.
